Landgrant and Kate

Barn manager and co-owner Kate Baird has been around horses as much as possible for 50 years, and has studied dressage for nearly 40 years.

She has had a variety of equine experiences, including as a dressage competitor, breeder, trainer, girls' camp riding instructor, several times a Demonstration Rider for the USDF "L" Judges program, and has ridden as a "guinea pig" in experiments with rein tension, saddle pad and muscle sensors at the Michigan State University McPhail Equine Performance Center.

Kate has had the wonderful experience of teaching for MSU's Animal Science Department's Horse Management Program and was recruited to serve one year as MSU Equestrian Team Coach for Stock and Hunt Seats. She was instrumental in the formation of MSU's Dressage Team/Club and served for its first year as Coach and Staff Advisor.

The picture above shows Kate on Landgrant, her 17.1 hand home bred Holsteiner/TB cross whom she trained to third level dressage and competed successfully at second level until lameness forced his retirement from the show ring.
